That curved gray form below the logo on the Ascender Fonts website caught my eye. Nice way to draw a subtle distinction between the content and navigation areas, and make the content area of the page “pop” in a visually satisfying way. This is particularly important for a font designer, because the website is, by necessity, heavily text-focused. Besides a nicely designed website, this company makes some beautiful fonts. I think most “handwriting” fonts look unreal and forced, but Jim Ford has created one that looks good enough to actually use: Jimmy Crack Corn Pro.
Based on a model written with a Sharpie™ Extra Fine felt pen, the casual script font evokes an energetic feeling, and has very legible letterforms without quirky distractions. Jim Ford’s hand went global by creating a massive multilingual character set (including Eastern European accents, Cyrillic, Greek and Turkish).
